Official Timekeeper OMEGA hosts Kiwi sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.

Silver medallists Peter Burling and Blair Tuke enjoyed some quality time on dry land at OMEGA’s showcase of timekeeping technology in Tokyo.

The Swiss brand’s friendship with the sailors is an extension of its proud partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand, which began 26-years ago in 1995.

Earlier this year, as key members of that esteemed crew, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke claimed the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland New Zealand. At Tokyo 2020, the goal was to take home a medal - and the Kiwi crew delivered, earning silver in the fast-moving 49er event.

Reflecting on their overall performance, Blair Tuke said, “It was very close. Tight racing all week. A bit heart breaking not to get another gold, being so close, but we’re super proud to earn another silver medal for Aotearoa New Zealand”.

Peter Burling was grateful for the opportunity to compete at all - and spoke highly of the host nation. “After everything that’s happened, it’s been amazing to actually have an Olympic Games. The Japanese people have been so warm and welcoming”.

During the visit, Peter Burling wore OMEGA’s tribute to the 36th America’s Cup. The Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph in steel, with blue ceramic dial, regatta countdown ring and exclusive CHRONO LOCK system.

Blair Tuke wore the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Co-Axial Chronometer Chronograph “Black Black in polished and brushed black ceramic with matt black ceramic dial. OMEGA’s salute to the astronauts of Apollo 8.

As a nod to their home country, the Kiwi sailors fixed their OMEGA’s to black NATO straps with a white stripe, in line with New Zealand’s competition colours.

Tokyo 2020 is the third Olympic Games for Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. They have earned medals at every event, including gold at Rio 2016.
